Military Records Corrections
The Warriors Remembrance & Research Foundation (WRRF) assists veterans and families in correcting errors or omissions in official military records. In most cases, this process results in the issuance of a DD Form 215 (Correction to DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty), which is used to amend a veteran’s DD Form 214 when awards, decorations, or service details were omitted or recorded incorrectly.
For deceased veterans, we also help families apply for a review or upgrade of a character of discharge when the current discharge status prevents eligibility for death and burial benefits. These requests are considered by the appropriate military branch’s Discharge Review Board (DRB) or Board for Correction of Military Records (BCMR). For example, a veteran who served honorably in Vietnam but later received a Bad Conduct Discharge due to a fight on base may still be eligible for review, and in such a case WRRF may provide support.
WRRF assists with preparing and filing the required forms and documentation, but final decisions are made by the Department of Defense review boards, not WRRF. We reserve the right to decline cases after reviewing the service member’s records and conducting family interviews. In such cases, families will be provided with a step-by-step guide to file on their own.
*WRRF will not assist with upgrade packages involving capital crimes or crimes of moral turpitude.
Post Service Awards & Certificates
In addition to correcting official records, WRRF assists veterans and families in obtaining awards and recognitions created after a veteran’s service that they may still be entitled to. This includes items such as the Cold War Recognition Certificate and Atomic Veterans Commemorative Service Medal, and other retroactive medals, campaign ribbons, or certificates authorized by Congress or the Department of Defense after a veteran separated from service. Many families are unaware of these honors, but they serve as meaningful symbols of a veteran’s contributions to our nation’s history. WRRF helps identify eligibility, gather required documentation, and submit requests so veterans and their families receive the recognition they have earned.
