Helping families honor a veteran with dignity when funeral and burial costs become an overwhelming financial burden.
No family should face this burden alone.
The Warriors Remembrance & Research Foundation understands that the cost of a veteran’s funeral can be overwhelming for many families, even when VA burial allowances are available.
When resources allow, WRRF may provide limited financial aid or grants to support low-income families during this difficult time. Our role is to supplement existing benefits, not replace them.
When direct financial assistance is not possible, we still work with families to identify other resources, understand veteran death and burial benefits, obtain memorial support, and pursue appropriate advocacy.

Funding availability varies, but every request gives WRRF an opportunity to help a family identify a path forward.
Limited Financial Aid
When designated resources are available, WRRF may provide limited assistance toward qualifying funeral, burial, cremation, interment, transportation, or memorial expenses.
Benefits Guidance
We help families understand potential VA burial benefits, required documentation, filing deadlines, and the difference between benefits available at federally funded and community cemeteries.
Referral & Advocacy
When WRRF cannot fund a request directly, we may connect families with partner organizations, community resources, memorial support, or agencies that may offer additional assistance.
Every request is reviewed individually.
Available assistance depends on the family’s circumstances, demonstrated need, other benefits or payments available, eligible expenses, documentation, and the amount of restricted grant funding available to WRRF at the time of review.
A respectful review centered on the family’s needs.
Applicants do not need to understand every benefit before contacting WRRF. Begin with the veteran’s story, the burial plan, the expenses involved, and the support already received.
Submit a Request
Complete the financial-aid application and provide basic information about the veteran, claimant, funeral or burial arrangements, and financial need.
Provide Records
WRRF may request service records, proof of death, invoices, receipts, cemetery documents, benefit decisions, and information regarding other assistance.
Individual Review
We evaluate the request, identify potential benefits or outside resources, and determine whether restricted WRRF funds may be available.
Next Steps
The family receives a response explaining any approved assistance, additional information needed, or other resources and advocacy options available.
Veteran’s grave in a community or family cemetery
A veteran’s final wish should not place a family in debt.
Across Texas, widowed spouses and children of deceased veterans may be left with outstanding burial costs after honoring a loved one’s final wish to rest in a community cemetery.
VA burial benefits, when available, may not fully cover funeral, transportation, plot, interment, and memorial expenses. Families choosing a community cemetery—often so the veteran can rest beside generations of relatives—may face costs that differ substantially from burial in a federally funded cemetery.
As a nation, we must ensure that a veteran’s place of rest never becomes a source of financial hardship or forces a family to deplete limited savings.

Families should apply as early as possible and retain copies of service records, funeral contracts, cemetery paperwork, invoices, receipts, benefit decisions, and correspondence with agencies or other organizations.
Submitting an application does not guarantee an award. It allows WRRF to review the situation, determine whether funding may be available, and identify other benefits or resources that may help.
