Financial Aid & Grant Program
The Warriors Remembrance & Research Foundation (WRRF) understands that the cost of a veteran’s funeral can be overwhelming for many families, even with VA burial allowances. To help ease this burden, WRRF may offer limited financial aid or grants, when resources allow, to support low-income families during this difficult time.
Our role is to supplement existing benefits, not replace them. Each request is reviewed individually, and where direct financial assistance is not possible, we work with families to connect them to other resources, provide guidance on veteran death and burial benefits, or help with memorial services.
While WRRF cannot guarantee funding for every request, our commitment is to do everything we can—through direct support, guidance, or advocacy—to ensure no veteran is denied a dignified farewell because of financial hardship or where they choose to be buried.
Across Texas, widowed spouses and children of deceased veterans are facing outstanding burial costs after honoring their loved one’s final wish to be laid to rest in a community cemetery. While the Department of Veterans Affairs provides limited burial benefits (if any), these often do not fully cover the costs—benefits that would otherwise be provided if the veteran were buried in a federally funded cemetery.
As a nation we must ensure a veteran’s place of rest is never a source of financial hardship. Veterans’ choosing a community cemetery burial—often alongside generations of family—should not force their family into debt or deplete what little savings they have.
We invite you to read some of the veteran cases we have encountered. If you are moved to help, you may donate directly to the WRRF Financial Aid & Grant Program.
Together, we can ensure our nation’s veterans are honored with dignity—without burdening the families they left behind.
